t h e m a y f i l e s is foremost a family blog, chronicling everyday life. Life including natural, healthy eating (with recipes thrown in at random), home educating (with ideas popping up sporadically), an attempt to homestead on .2 acres (with very meager yields), raising 3 of 4 children with a rare genetic disorder, and lots of highly personal family triumphs and failures. You may also find an eclectic array of musings on politics, exercise, sewing, emergency preparedness, backyard chickens, and religion. This blog isn't a campaign to glorify anyone or anything. Just simply a record.

Homeschooling Math

By the far the best "program" I purchased for our homeschooling is the Shiller Math Program. I absolutely love it. The girls gobble it up. In fact Callista actually cries when I tell her we finally have to stop Math, and she just begs for more. No exaggeration here.

I actually think it would be a great program to have around to supplement school math. It is based on the Montesorri method. The lessons are quick and completely scripted. You could do it with no prep in just about 15 minutes a day. We usually do about 5 or 6 lessons in a day. Sometimes less, dependent on the difficulty of the concept. It is full of manipulatives and appropriate for both my children.

It is not huge on fact repetition, but I am okay with that.
