t h e m a y f i l e s is foremost a family blog, chronicling everyday life. Life including natural, healthy eating (with recipes thrown in at random), home educating (with ideas popping up sporadically), an attempt to homestead on .2 acres (with very meager yields), raising 3 of 4 children with a rare genetic disorder, and lots of highly personal family triumphs and failures. You may also find an eclectic array of musings on politics, exercise, sewing, emergency preparedness, backyard chickens, and religion. This blog isn't a campaign to glorify anyone or anything. Just simply a record.

Of Stinky Shoes and Fitting In

Several Days Ago...

Ellery: Mom, I really want some new tennis shoes.
Me: Hmmm. Ellery I think we decided we don't buy you tennis shoes because you refuse to wear socks. Remember your shoes get so stinky. (In fact the only shoes we buy for her are crocs because this is such an issue!)
A Day or Two Later, Getting Ready for Bed

Ellery: Dad can you get me a pair of socks please?
Brent: Socks? (bewildered)
Ellery: Yes Dad. I need to get used to them.
Brent: Get used to them?
Ellery: Oh Dad. All the children at school have the cutest tennis shoes. I really want some. I am the only one who doesn't wear tennis shoes. I want to try so hard to get my feet used to socks so I can have cute shoes too.

That is the sweetest thing, how cute that she's going to try and get her feet used to socks! Such a great post and something fun to look back on. :)

That is darling. You'll have to document her first pair of tennis shoes for sure!
