t h e m a y f i l e s is foremost a family blog, chronicling everyday life. Life including natural, healthy eating (with recipes thrown in at random), home educating (with ideas popping up sporadically), an attempt to homestead on .2 acres (with very meager yields), raising 3 of 4 children with a rare genetic disorder, and lots of highly personal family triumphs and failures. You may also find an eclectic array of musings on politics, exercise, sewing, emergency preparedness, backyard chickens, and religion. This blog isn't a campaign to glorify anyone or anything. Just simply a record.

Rebecca,

I've been following your blog for quite a while and just wanted to let you know that I really admire you in so many ways....not that I necessarily have the same opinions on everything that you do, but you have made me think about things that I would not have otherwise thought of, and have caused me to consider and examine things more closely than I might have done otherwise. It amazes me how much energy you have and reading your blog has definitely inspired me to work harder and do better, so thank you! I really love reading about your experience with homeschooling...I will admit I never even considered it until a couple of years ago, and while I'm still not quite sure that I could actually do it, I love the idea of it and am absolutely terrified of sending my kids to school all day every day. My oldest is just going to be starting kindergarten next year, so I haven't had to decide quite yet, but your ideas/thoughts/etc. have really helped me in my thought process about all of this. Are you planning on homeschooling all the way through high school? I will admit I'm a little nervous about teaching my kids at that level since I don't remember much about math, etc. I guess that's why the idea of doing half home-school/half public school appeals to me...but especially with my oldest, it makes me a little worried because she is very shy and I worry that having her come in and out of school would make it even harder on her socially...anyways, a lot to think about, but once again thanks for your thoughts!

I'd love the poems...how do you go about having your children memorize them? Do you do a line at a time, or just keep repeating the whole thing with them until they learn it? Any tips would be helpful!

Thanks again! You're amazing!
